Since 1641, Château du Carpia is a domestic property registered today as a listed building. In 1983, Xavier and Aude Planty, the tenth generation, have taken over this estate of 116 ha of mixed farming (vineyard, cereal, animal) and apply them to protect the tradition of the quality. Since 1986, Xavier Planty, winemaker, and master of a science degree, is the manager of the Château Guiraud, the first growth in the 1855 classification of Sauternes whom he became co-owner in July 20th, 2006. The Carpia farm is already led in organic culture for 10 years. After five years of preparation in vineyard organic mode with already tasting convincing results, 2006 is the starting up of the vineyard conversion in ORGANIC mode under the control of ECOCERT. Château du Carpia has been certified organic in 2009. It permits to maintain ecological balances by using natural products for the fertilization and the production of the cultures. It permits to maintain and to improve the long-term fertility and the biologic activity of soils by using mechanical methods based on the recycling of organic matters and rotation of the cultures. Wedon't let ourselves to use chemicals synthesis and OGM products. It permits also to encourage the farming natural biodiversity on and around our farm, through a friendly farming system, and to improve the protection of the wild environments of the fauna and the flora. In that way, our wines are the most authentic expression of the soil because they are issued from a process that permits a natural expression of the Terroir.
